ARE YOU POSITIVE?!

Us versus them
Even here in Lewistown Montana
some live on the dark side. And are
ready to do whatever is necessary to
make the rest of us miserable. We're
in the midst of a City Commissioner
election cycle. Multiple candidates
are running for four seats at the table.
Several are attempting to do so by
trying to convince us that our town
is failing. Therefore they're the only
ones who can save it and "drain the
swamp" that we apparently created.
Talk about a bunch of losers...
Saints or sinners?
Even worse, they accuse those who differ
of being members of the "un-American
30%." A not so veiled suggestion that if
you don't veer to their far right - you can
not be a viable part of our community.
I'm a homosexual, born out of wedlock,
registered Democrat. So I wonder if they
think I sport horns and a tail? Actually I'm
just an average citizen who is concerned
about the future of my community. Thus
while some label me liberal - I'd rather
think of myself as an optimist who does
whatever he can to make things better.
Him, not me
Nobody should be able to libel others.
Yet in times such as these grim reapers
love to spew evil. Said monster can't be
ignored. Fortunately many friends and
neighbors have had enough. And like
victims of abuse are finally standing up
against the dark side. The ad shown at
the base of this blog ran in Saturdays's
News Argus. It lists a plethora of local
successes. All proving that Lewistown
is not poised on the brink of extinction.
In addition many others have written
letters detailing the facts NOT fiction.
Perception vs. reality
Few can deny that rampant negativity
could easily destroy our community's
resolve. However in reality, the good
(or amazing) far outweighs the bad.
Do we have challenges? Sure! Can we
overcome them? YES. The secret is to
not wallow in the quicksand created by
certifiable cynics. Yet given perception
is reality, we each need to do our part
to stem the cancerous tirades of local
bottom feeders. Therefore it's time for
us to accentuate the positive in order to
ELIMINATE THE NEGATIVE!
Rise above it
As we vote this election day we all must
focus on the positive. And thus insure our
continued forward momentum. But each
of us can do more to brighten our outlook.
Submitting a positive letter to our local
News-Argus can do just that and more.
Before you jot - remember the purpose of
this exercise is to exorcise our community
demons. Hence if you can't say something
good then resist temptation and put your
poison pen down. We need to all focus on
how great this place that we call home is.
Time to ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE!
Positive influence
Finally, in a small community such
as Lewistown - each and every vote
counts! Support POSITIVE growth
and momentum by voting for:

DIANE OLDENBURG
for Ward 1 City Commissioner
PATTY TURK
for Ward 2 City Commisioner
BETH PUTNAM
for Ward 3 City Commissioner
CLINT LOOMIS
for City Commissioner At Large
